Core service

Full removal and replacement

When the slab is broken into pieces, rocking at the garage, or failing at the street, a full replacement is the conversation. A smear of filler is a different product.

This is an independent referral guide. It connects homeowners with independent providers and may receive compensation. It is not a licensed contractor and it does not do the work.

What replacement means on a Vista lot

A full replacement starts by taking the old concrete out, not by hiding it. The crew you hire should haul the rubble, look at the soil and base underneath, regrade where water has been running the wrong way, set forms, place the new concrete, and cut or tool the joints. The apron, which is the piece that meets the gutter, is often the part that involves the city.

Vista driveways are not one shape. A short apron in front of a Vista Village bungalow, a cul de sac in Shadowridge, and a long sloped drive off Buena Creek Road put the truck, the forms, and the water in different places. Tell the provider which of those you have before you compare bids.

  • Breakout and haul away of the old slab
  • Base repair and compaction after the old concrete is gone
  • Forms, thickness, joints, and the finish you actually want
  • Slope away from the garage, or a drain that is designed on purpose
  • A clear note about the sidewalk, curb, gutter, and driveway approach

Questions that belong in the written scope

Access

Can the concrete truck reach the forms, or is a pump required? A long east Vista drive or a tight downtown street can change the answer.

The apron

Does the price include the approach in the public right of way, or only the private slab? Those are different scopes.

Thickness and joints

Ask where the slab is thicker under the wheel path and where the joints go. Joints are part of the structure, not a decoration.

Water

If the old driveway sloped toward the garage, say so. The new one should not repeat that path unless a drain is designed to catch the water.

This page does not set a price. Removal, dump fees, a pump, base rock, reinforcement choices, and city work all move the number. Compare scopes that list those items, not a single lump sum with no words under it.

Questions on this service

Should the old concrete always come out?

For a true replacement, yes. If a provider wants to leave a moving slab in place and cover it, ask what happens to the cracks underneath and get that answer in the written scope.

Who should pull a permit for street work?

Ask which person will be the licensed contractor for any work in the public street, and check that license yourself. This guide does not verify contractors.
